Whatever one’s age or interests, B’nai B’rith offers a wide range of activities and opportunities.
B’nai B’rith is an international organisation with a presence in over 50 countries. Since its earliest days it has aimed to bring together all people of the Jewish faith from all walks of life, without regard for background, level of religious belief or practice, social or economic circumstances. The aim is to strengthen the community in which B’nai B’rith is based, while assisting people in need around the world and showing support for the State of Israel.
B’nai B’rith works through its motto “Benevolence, Fellowship and Harmony”
Benevolence- “People helping People”
This is achieved by contributing to projects for the benefit of the Jewish community and the wider world either by direct “hands on” assistance or by donation. For example, delivery of food parcels for Pesach and Rosh Hashana, meeting humanitarian needs such as the Tsunami Appeal. Proceeds from the opportunity shops in Melbourne and Sydney donate to local community organisations.
Fellowship- “The Social Aspect”
This may include cultural activities such as talks, discussions, theatre parties, gallery visits and more.
Purely social activities include bush walks, barbeques, movie nights, weekends away, book clubs
Harmony- “Working together for a better society” concentrates on activities in areas of human rights, anti discrimination and promoting inter ethnic and inter religious understanding and respect.
Projects in this category are: Courage to Care is a travelling exhibition based on Holocaust experiences. It opposes bullying and highlights the importance of thoughtfulness and respect for others and that each individual can make a difference.
Building Bridges program provides cultural and social interchange between Moslems and the Jewish community.
Through its membership base and network of volunteer supporters B’nai B’rith continues to build a stronger community.
